Sunderland has finalized the signing of Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer took place on July 30, 2025, and the total value of the deal amounts to 20 million euros, of which 15 million euros is paid upfront, while the remaining 5 million euros may be paid in the form of bonuses.
The 32-year-old midfielder has signed a three-year contract with the club. Xhaka, who previously played for Arsenal, stated that he is excited about the opportunity to play for Sunderland and is ready to contribute his experience to the team.
This signing marks the sixth new addition for Sunderland this summer, and the team has also signed players for various positions, including left-back Reinaldo Mandava and midfielders Habib Diallo and Noya Sadiki.
Xhaka is transitioning to the Premier League after two years in Leverkusen, where he won the championship and the cup. Sunderland hopes that his experience will help the team in their fight for survival in the top league.
