Ukrainian Intelligence Investigates Facts of Child Abduction by Russia

  • Intelligence specialists have gained access to documents regarding the abduction of children.
  • Thousands of lists of abducted children and their new identities have been discovered.
  • The deportation of over 19,000 children has been confirmed by Ukrainian human rights defenders.

This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.

On July 30, 2025, the Ukrainian intelligence reported new evidence of the abduction of Ukrainian children from temporarily occupied territories. This could have been made possible by access to servers of the so-called Crimean government.

Along with the information obtained from the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, cyber intelligence specialists gained access to documents that confirm the systematic deportation of children from the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.

Intelligence has obtained "a thousand lists" of abducted children, the identities of children who have been left without guardianship, as well as illegal decisions regarding the designation of new identities, citizens of Russia. Addresses of the new places of residence of these children have also been obtained.

Representative of the GUR Andriy Yusov noted that "thousands of files with sensitive information for the judiciary" have already been transferred to law enforcement agencies. The obtained evidence will be analyzed and included in criminal proceedings.

Yusov emphasized that this information will help find and return the abducted children to their parents, as well as bring to justice those responsible for this crime.

Deportation of Ukrainian Children

Earlier, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported that Russia has deported more than 19,000 children from Ukraine. According to him, there is a risk of deportation of another 1.5 million children who remain in occupied territories.

In Ukraine, a registry of children deported by Russia has also been initiated. Recently, several Ukrainian children have been successfully returned from occupied territories and Russia.

In 2022, the International Criminal Court issued warrants for the arrest of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights in connection with the deportation of Ukrainian children.
