Hackers Breached the Tea App for Women’s Safety

  • The Tea app for women was reportedly breached by hackers.
  • Thousands of images and personal messages were stolen.
  • The company is implementing a free protection service for affected individuals’ data.

The Tea app, designed to ensure the safety of women during meetings, became a victim of a hacker attack, resulting in the theft of thousands of users’ personal data. According to the company’s statement, the breach occurred last week, and as a result, 72,000 images were leaked, including photographs of documents, and over 1 million private messages.

Tea allows women to verify potential partners for the existence of a history of abuse or registration as sexual offenders, as well as share information about "red flags" in the behavior of individuals. After the breach, the company suspended its messaging function and began investigating the incident. It emphasized that it is working on improving the safety features of the app.

Critics of the app assert that it may be overly intrusive. However, many women consider it an important tool for enhancing safety during meetings. In connection with the incident, Tea promised to provide free protective services for users whose data was compromised.

The app, which currently has 1.6 million users, noted that the criticism and increased popularity are now leading to legal challenges through data leaks.
