Japan Sets New Temperature Record of 41.2°C

On July 30, 2025, Japan set a new temperature record when thermometers in Tanda, Hyogo Prefecture, showed 41.2°C at 14:39. This figure surpassed the previous record of 41.1°C, recorded in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on August 17, 2020. Also, on the same day, the temperature reached 40.6°C in Fukushima, Kyoto Prefecture, marking the first instance this year where temperatures in Japan exceeded 40°C.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that in recent days, temperatures in many regions exceeded 35°C. On Thursday, July 29, the temperature reached or exceeded 35°C at 322 of 914 meteorological stations, the highest number since 2010. New records were set in 38 locations, including the city of Gifu, where the temperature soared to 39.8°C.
In connection with the anomalously high temperatures, the Japanese government issued a warning to the population about their health, urging them to avoid overheating.
Meteorologists predict that the scorching weather will continue, with forecasts indicating a significant rise in temperatures in the northern and eastern regions of Japan. The government is advising residents to take care of their health, avoiding overheating.
