The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that introduces sanctions against vessels that participate in the transportation of Russian oil and petroleum products. The law provides for the inclusion of amendments to the law of Ukraine "On sanctions".
In accordance with this law, sanctions may be applied to vessels whose activities pose a real or potential threat to national interests, security, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.
The Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence agencies have been tasked with identifying such vessels. All information about sanctioned entities must be entered into the State Register of Sanctions.
This law is the result of an initiative that began on July 16, when the Verkhovna Rada approved the draft law on the application of sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet with 291 votes "for". In addition, Ukraine plans to appeal to the European Union with a request to impose sanctions against Bangladeshi companies that import oil from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
