The nationalized PrivatBank received a definitive ruling in the case against its former owners, Igor Kolomoisky and Gennadiy Bogolyubov, in the High Court of London. The court found that Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov illegally withdrew nearly 2 billion dollars from the bank, using a fraudulent financial scheme.
Judge William Traxler noted that the position of the defendants was based on unreliable statements. The total compensation amount has not yet been specified, but it may exceed 2 billion dollars, taking into account percentages and expenses for legal services.
The court proceedings began in June 2023, following the detention due to wartime. During this time, the claim amount increased from 1.9 billion dollars to nearly 4.5 billion due to accumulated percentages.
PrivatBank, which provides services to over 18 million clients, emphasizes the importance of this ruling for protecting the interests of its depositors and the state. The defendants did not appear in court, and their assets are subject to international arrest since 2017.
This case has become one of the most high-profile in the judicial practice of Great Britain, where a lot of evidence has been presented that confirms large-scale fraud.
