Léon Marchand Sets World Record at Swimming Championships

SINGAPORE (AP) — Léon Marchand drew attention at the world swimming championship, setting a new world record in the 200-meter individual medley. The French swimmer completed the distance in 1:52.69, surpassing the previous record set by Ryan Lochte in 2011 (1:54.00).
This was his first appearance at the championship, as he specializes in the 200 and 400-meter individual medley, as well as in several other events. In 2024 at the Olympic Games in Paris, Marchand aims to win four gold medals.
Tomorrow, July 31, he may have the opportunity to add gold in the 200-meter individual medley, having previously won in 2022 and 2023.
At the championship, other swimmers were also highlighted: American Claire Weinstein recorded the fastest time in the women’s 200-meter freestyle, while Lucie Uraland led in the qualification for the 200 meters butterfly.
The final of the mixed 4x100 meter medley relay is also scheduled for today.
