Audit of Air India Safety Reveals Over 50 Violations

  • 51 safety violations were identified at Air India
  • The audit is not related to the recent aircraft disaster
  • Air India plans to respond to the audit results

The Indian aviation regulator identified 51 safety violations at Air India during an annual audit. These results are not related to the recent catastrophic incident involving a Boeing 787 aircraft that occurred on June 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad and resulted in the deaths of 260 people.

The audit, conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India, found six serious violations at the highest level that require immediate rectification. The report indicates that Air India did not conduct relevant assessments of routes for certain airports with outdated infrastructure, and also utilized unverified trainers for pilot training.

Air India stated that it "fully cooperated" during the audit and plans to respond to the regulator within the established timeframe regarding the details of corrective actions. Along with the findings from the audit, the company also faced issues with pilot training and the crew resource management system.

The audit highlighted the important context of increased attention to aviation safety in India following a recent aircraft incident. The regulator noted 263 safety issues across all commercial airlines, including 44 violations of the second level and six violations of the first level at Air India.
