In Ukraine, they simplified the information about the elevated radiation background

  • The Ministry of Internal Affairs has simplified the information about the radiation background.
  • The situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains stable.
  • Representatives of the IAEA confirmed the absence of elevated radiation levels.

This is reported by Interfax Ukraine, RBC Ukraine.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Center for Nuclear Safety Protection simplified the information about the elevated radiation background in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine regarding extraordinary situations, the radiation background level is 0.14 μSv/h, which is a normal indicator.

Monitoring continues, and the Ministry of Energy reported that there have been no changes in the radiation background of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Along with the information from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, all automated monitoring posts did not register any changes in the radiation environment.

The Center for Nuclear Safety Protection stated that the distributed video on "radiation background levels" is misleading. They emphasized that to obtain accurate data, more time is needed for calibrating the equipment. The indicators used in the video do not meet the requirements due to insufficient measurement time.

Currently, representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who are located at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, confirmed that radiation levels remain stable. They did not register any elevated radiation levels, contrary to reports that emerged on July 29.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russian troops have occupied the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and the situation remains unsafe for nuclear safety due to the neglect of safety norms.
