The Court Allowed Palestine Action to Appeal the Group's Ban
- Palestine Action received the right to appeal the government's ban on the group.
- The ban on the group triggered numerous arrests of activists.
- The government believes that the group's actions are terrorist through the promotion of violence.
The group Palestine Action received the right to appeal the UK government's decision to ban it as a terrorist organization. This decision was upheld by the High Court, taking into account arguments that the ban poses a threat to freedom of expression and protest.
A spokesperson for the group, Huda Ammori, filed a request to the court, stating that the ban has resulted in numerous arrests of activists who expressed their opinion on the conflict in Gaza. Following the introduction of the ban, which came into force on July 5, the number of arrests during protests exceeded 200 individuals.
In its ruling, the court stated that the case regarding the ban should be reconsidered in court, as it may have serious consequences for those who wish to express their political views.
The ban on supporting Palestine Action is a criminal offense, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The government argued that the ban is a serious promotion of violence during protests, including during attacks on military aircraft and the production of weapons.
The ban was justified as "serious violence" under the laws against terrorism by international human rights organizations, which have criticized its introduction.
