Tourists Receive Recommendations Regarding Travel to California and Hawaii

  • Prices have reached California and Hawaii after the earthquake
  • Evacuation notices have been issued for coastal areas
  • Airlines are offering free changes to flights

After a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8, which occurred in the far east of Russia, prices have reached western overseas areas of the USA and Hawaii. The earthquake has become one of the most powerful ever recorded, causing prices to rise, which has spread to the Pacific region.

The first prices reached California earlier in the afternoon, where a wave was recorded at a height of 3.6 feet in the city of Crescent City. The US government issued warnings about prices for overseas travelers from British Columbia to the Mexican border, as well as for Alaska. President Donald Trump urged people to remain safe.

In Hawaii, where the wave height recorded was up to 5.6 feet, evacuation notices were also issued for coastal areas. The Hawaii government is advising residents to move to higher ground to avoid flooding.

Government Recommendations

The British government advises tourists to follow the instructions of local authorities. Currently, it does not recommend traveling to the USA, as returning costs for canceled trips depend on the conditions of specific travel companies.

Situation with Airlines

Many airlines, including Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, have announced the possibility of free changes to flights for passengers planning to travel to Hawaii. Some flights were temporarily suspended, but most airports have resumed operations.

Tourists are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport and stay updated through the airline's apps.
