On July 30, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 occurred in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, which triggered a tsunami. As a result of this, the Klyuchevskaya volcano began to erupt. According to the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the activity of the volcano was recorded in the west and its vicinity, where lava flows and eruptions are observed.
The Klyuchevskaya volcano is one of the largest in the world, its height reaching 4,800 meters. Since the beginning of February 2025, increased activity has been observed, but the eruption only occurred after the earthquake. The crater of the volcano has a width of about 700 meters, and the eruptions are accompanied by the emission of gases and plastic materials.
At the moment of the eruption, no casualties have been reported, although the nearest populated point, Klyuchi, is located about 30 kilometers away. However, local authorities do not rule out the possibility of hazardous situations arising due to ash and lava.
On the same day that the eruption occurred, the volcano emitted columns of ash up to three kilometers high. This eruption happened after the photographs showing the volcano's activity were published on July 19.
