The football club Barcelona announced the conclusion of a new four-year sponsorship agreement with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to the agreement, on the reverse side of the training jerseys of professional teams in the club will be displayed the inscription "DR Congo - Heart of Africa."
This agreement also includes the creation of an updated stadium in Camp Nou "DRC Building", where interactive exhibitions will be presented that highlight the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage of Congo. The club plans to organize sports camps for children, focusing on football, basketball, handball, futsal, and roller hockey.
According to the information, the total value of the agreement will exceed 44 million euros. This sponsorship contract will help the club overcome financial difficulties and comply with strict rules of the La Liga salary cap.
Similar agreements were also signed by AC Milan and AS Monaco, who aim to promote the development of football in the DRC. In June of this year, these clubs signed agreements to support social-economic development in the country.
Situation in the DRC
Currently, the DRC is experiencing a worsening of human rights and humanitarian conditions. Organizations such as Human Rights Watch report on the repression against the opposition and journalists. The war in the eastern part of the country continues to claim the lives of thousands of people and leads to mass displacement of the population.
In June of this year, the DRC signed a peace agreement with Rwanda, aiming to resolve conflicts that have lasted for decades. However, former DRC president Joseph Kabila referred to this agreement merely as a trade agreement.
