The President of Moldova, Maya Sandu, expressed concern about the possible interference of Russia in the parliamentary elections, which will take place on September 28, 2025. According to her, Moscow plans "unprecedented interference" to ensure the victory of pro-Russian politicians.
Sandu noted that Russia could invest up to 100 million euros through cryptocurrency to support the elections and illegal financing of political forces across the border. There have already been imposed 25 thousand fines for such illegal activities.
The president also warned about possible cyberattacks on digital infrastructure related to the elections, as well as about plans to organize paid protests in Moldova. She believes that Russia may utilize the church, so-called opinion leaders, and online influencers to spread anti-European messages.
In response to these accusations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied Russia's interference in Moldova's internal affairs. He stated that "Russia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries" and expressed concern about violations of the electoral rights of Moldovans.
Interestingly, recently the Central Election Commission of Moldova banned participation of the pro-Russian bloc "Peremoga" in the elections, which is controlled by the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, who currently resides in Russia.
