Young swimmer Yu Zidi amazed at the World Championships 2025

Yu Zidi, a 12-year-old swimmer from China, drew attention at the World Championships in aquatic sports 2025, which takes place in Singapore. She took fourth place in the final of the 200m individual medley, missing the bronze medal by just 0.06 seconds. Her time of 2:09.21 set a new personal record.
The competition was won by Canadian Summer McIntosh with a time of 2:06.69, while the silver went to American Alex Walsh with a result of 2:08.58. Typically, to participate in world championships, one must be at least 14 years old, but Yu was able to qualify, having met the standard set by the "All Federation".
Yu Zidi, born in Baoding in 2012, began swimming at the age of 6. Her career has developed rapidly, and already at 11 she qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games, showing a time of 4:40.97 in the 400m individual medley.
At the World Championships 2025, Yu also has the opportunity to compete in the final of the 200m butterfly, which will take place on July 31, and the final of the 400m individual medley is scheduled for September 3. If she wins a medal, it will be a historic achievement, and she will also become the youngest medalist in international competitions in the last 90 years.
In connection with the unusual young swimmer Yu Zidi, the International Swimming Federation is considering the possibility of changing its rules. The federation's director, Brent Nowicki, stated that they intend to assess the situation and decide whether changes to the rules are necessary.
