Kim Le Court won the fifth stage of the Tour de France and the yellow jersey

Kim Le Court won the fifth stage of Tour de France Femmes, becoming the first African woman to win a stage in this competition. Mavrikyka also received the yellow leader's jersey after Marianne Vos lost time due to a crash from the main group.

Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) was part of the seven cyclists who broke away from the peloton on the last climb before the dramatic descent to the finish. She finished ahead of Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) in the final sprint, while Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime) finished third.

Defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM), along with Polin Ferrand-Prevot (Visma Lease a Bike), Pauline Ruyackers (Fenix-Deceunick) and the Le Court team, beat Vos by more than 30 seconds, which dropped her to sixth place in the overall standings.

"We approached the stage with a very clear plan," Le Court said in an interview with Eurosport. "When we finish in a small group, we try to win the stage. The sprint was faster than I expected... luckily, my sprint was the fastest in the group."

Le Court leads the overall standings, ahead of Ferrand-Prevot by 18 seconds, with Vollering still 5 seconds behind. Niewiadoma occupies fourth place, trailing by 24 seconds, while van der Breggen is in fifth, just one second ahead of Vos.

The next stage of the competition will take place on Thursday, and it will be the first mountain stage over a distance of 123.7 km between Clermont-Ferrand and Ambert. The route includes four categorized climbs, including a Category 1 climb called Col du Beal.
