Gouley Proposal Allows Americans to Receive $600

Senator Josh Gouley presented the bill, which provides for a payment of $600 in the form of tariff refunds to American workers and their families. This initiative, known as The Tariff Refund Act for American Workers, aims to return part of the income received from tariff collections, which were implemented by the previous administration.

Along with this bill, the payments will amount to no less than $600 for each adult and dependent child. If revenue from tariffs exceeds expectations, the total payment amount may be increased. Gouley noted that this initiative is a response to the economic difficulties that Americans have faced during the Biden administration's policy.

The bill also provides for reductions for individuals with high incomes. Payments will be reduced by 5% for those whose annual income exceeds $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.

Gouley emphasized that these payments are intended for the working class, and highlighted the importance of returning part of the income from tariff collections specifically to this demographic. According to him, the plan aims to support those who "have suffered from rising prices on goods due to tariff rates."

Critics point out that similar programs could lead to inflationary pressure, as spending on goods has already increased due to tariffs. Data shows that in 2024, the U.S. imported consumer goods worth approximately $221 billion, a significant portion of which is subject to tariffs.

According to Gouley, this program will serve as support for those who "have suffered from Biden's policies," and aims to restore funding for those who "have been affected by rising prices."
