Jonathan Kuminga Declines Warriors' Contract Offer

  • Kuminga declined a deal worth $45 million from the Warriors.
  • Sacramento and Phoenix are proposing more lucrative contracts to Kuminga.
  • Kuminga has until January 1 to sign the agreement.

This is reported by ESPN, Marca.

Jonathan Kuminga, a restricted free agent, has once again declined a contract proposal from the Golden State Warriors for two years worth $45 million. The reasons for this include the team’s demands to include an option for the second year of the deal and the refusal to grant Kuminga the right to decline.

Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, has proposed an alternative deal for three years worth close to $82 million, which would allow the Warriors to remain within the salary cap limits. Meanwhile, Kuminga and his representatives are exploring the possibility of signing a contract with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, who are offering contracts for four years worth up to $100 million.

The Warriors have not expressed a desire to discuss possible trades, instead planning to retain control over Kuminga through a restricted free agency. The team hopes that Kuminga will remain on the roster, accepting one of the proposals: either a two-year deal or a one-year deal worth $7.9 million.

Kuminga is prioritizing the proposal from Sacramento and Phoenix, as they provide greater financial stability, a potential starting position, and a new opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. He stated that he is not rushing into signing the deal, aiming to select the option that best reflects his long-term interests.

Kuminga has until January 1 to sign the proposal for qualification, which creates uncertainty regarding his future and the Warriors' plans for the upcoming season.
