A New Messenger Bitchat Launched by Twitter's Founder

  • Bitchat uses Bluetooth for message transmission without the internet
  • The app ensures privacy and secure communication
  • Requires external auditing to confirm security

A new messenger Bitchat has appeared on the App Store, developed by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter. The app became available for download on July 28, 2025, both free of charge and with an open source code.

Bitchat proposes an alternative to traditional messengers, utilizing Bluetooth technology for message transmission. This means that users can communicate without access to Wi-Fi or mobile networks, limited to a range of up to 100 meters. However, as long as the network consists of other users, the connection possibilities can be expanded.

The app is designed for offline use, and its goal is to ensure privacy and security for users. For communication, it is not necessary to share an email or phone number. Users can send messages only to those who are within their network, creating a new form of communication.

Dorsey noted that Bitchat could be useful in situations where traditional networks are overwhelmed, such as at festivals or sporting events. The app also addresses censorship issues, as its architecture is not subject to government restrictions on the Internet.

However, despite its innovative approach, Bitchat still has a limited number of functions. Users can send private messages, block others, or send symbolic "hugs" or "high-fives." It is important to note that the app currently requires external verification of security, as it has not undergone an audit.
