Shooting in Reno Took the Lives of Two Young People

In Reno, Nevada, on July 30, 2025, a shooting occurred that resulted in the deaths of three people, two of whom were young individuals celebrating their wedding reception. The deceased, Justin Agila and Andriy Kanepa, both 23 years old from Southern California, were waiting for a car in the valet area in front of the Grand Sierra Resort when they were attacked by the shooter.
The third victim was 66-year-old local resident, Anhel Martines, who was passing through the parking lot. Police reported that the shooter, Dakota Haver, a 26-year-old resident of Reno, received a gunshot wound from police and is currently in critical condition.
The shooting happened around 7:30 AM when Haver approached a group of people with a pistol. He initially fired at random, but later began shooting multiple times, first hitting a car through the parking lot where a casino security guard was stationed.
Police discovered that Haver used a 9-mm pistol, which he legally purchased two years prior. He had no prior criminal history or mental health issues. The motives behind his actions remain unknown, as there is no connection between him and the victims or the casino.
Currently, two injured individuals who received gunshot wounds remain in the hospital, but their condition is stable, and they are expected to make a full recovery. Three other individuals sustained minor injuries.
