Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA star, is accused of running an illegal gambling business from his building in California. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Arenas and five other individuals were arrested on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in connection with this case.
Arenas, who is 43 years old, faces charges related to the organization of illegal gambling activities, as well as providing false testimony to federal investigators. Along with the indictment documents, it is alleged that the gambling games took place at a building on Gable Drive in the Encino area of Los Angeles, between January 12, 2021, and July 20, 2022.
According to the indictment, Arenas rented this building for conducting poker games, where organizers charged a commission on each pot, which is illegal. The operation included the presence of a poker table with the inscription "ARENAS POKER CLUB" and an image of Arenas in his basketball uniform.
Arenas, who was a three-time NBA All-Star, played for teams such as the Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic, and Memphis Grizzlies. It is planned that he will appear in court in Los Angeles in midweek.
