Celebrating 50 Years Since the Disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa

  • Jimmy Hoffa disappeared on July 30, 1975, during a meeting.
  • Searches for his remains have not yielded any results for 50 years.
  • Hoffa was the leader of the Teamsters union and had a controversial past.

Detroit, USA — On July 30, 2025, the 50th anniversary of the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, former leader of the Teamsters union, will be commemorated. Hoffa, who is believed to have vanished on July 30, 1975, disappeared without a trace after meeting with notorious mobsters at the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Michigan. His last phone call to a friend occurred at 2:15 PM, after which he was never heard from again.

Over the next decade, searches for his remains did not bring any results. In 2012, during a dig in Roseville, no traces of Hoffa were found, nor in 2013 at a suburban Detroit landfill, or in 2022 under a Pulaski Skaway in New Jersey.

Jimmy Hoffa, the son of a miner, was born in Brazil, Indiana, but moved to Detroit during his childhood. He became active in the labor movement in 1932 when he organized a strike over poor working conditions. From 1957 to 1971, he served as president of the Teamsters. Hoffa had notorious connections to organized crime, which led to his indictment in 1967, but in 1971 he was released from prison by presidential order from Nixon.

Regardless of his disappearance, the name Hoffa has become legendary. In 1999, he was inducted into the Labor Hall of Fame. Hoffa was seen as a hero of labor activists, yet his reputation was tarnished by his associations with the criminal underworld.
