The former vice president of the USA Kamala Harris announced that she will not be running for the position of governor of California in 2026. This decision comes as a result of several months of reflection following her defeat in the 2024 presidential elections against Donald Trump.

In her statement, Harris noted: "I love this state, its people, and its promise. This is my home. But after deep reflection, I have decided that I will not be running for governor in this election cycle."

Harris also mentioned that at this moment her leadership and community engagement will not be tied to electoral positions. She plans to return to active engagement, listening to the thoughts of Americans and supporting Democrats across the country.

Previously, Harris held state positions in California for over a decade, starting as the state attorney general and then as a U.S. senator. After Joe Biden was elected president, she became vice president, and in 2024 she replaced him as a candidate from the Democratic Party.

Harris did not mention the possibility of running for president in 2028, but her decision not to run for governor leaves the field open for other candidates, such as former congresswoman Katie Porter and others.

Harris stressed that in the USA, power should belong to the people, and they should actively use that power to fight for freedom, opportunities, and justice for all.
