The government will not meet the demands of striking doctors

  • The Minister of Health prohibits the possibility of increasing doctors' salaries.
  • Doctors are calling for negotiations, but the government has no plans to proceed.
  • Strikes have led to negative consequences for patients and the NHS.

The Minister of Health Wes Streeting stated that doctors who are striking have "lost faith" in the government after five days of protests in England. He emphasized that the government is not agreeing to an increase in salaries that doctors demand, which is a 29% increase, and negotiations must continue.

Streeting stressed that he is ready to discuss the working conditions of doctors, but rejected demands to increase salaries. He noted that doctors have already received a 22% increase over the last two years, but the real value of their earnings has decreased since 2008.

Doctors from the BMA (British Medical Association) stated that their demands remain relevant, and Streeting has failed to make a real proposal regarding salary increases. In this context, the minister indicated that doctors should be aware that the government cannot meet their demands.

In response to the strikes, Streeting emphasized that doctors' actions negatively impacted patients and harmed the NHS. He called for dialogue and stressed the importance of finding a compromise without further strikes.

New negotiations are planned, in which the minister hopes that the BMA acknowledges that all NHS workers deserve decent working conditions and salaries.
