Seattle (AP) — General Manager and President of Football Operations for the Seattle Seahawks John Schneider has signed a contract extension through the 2031 season.
Schneider is the longest-serving general manager in franchise history, having held the position since 2010. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“The extension of General Manager John Schneider’s contract is a testament to his 15-year leadership and success in football,” said Seahawks owner Jody Allen in a statement. “I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and maintain a strong partnership with head coach Pete Carroll, which already supports our winning culture on and off the field.”
54-year-old Schneider first joined the Seahawks in 2000 as the director of player personnel, and then returned to the franchise in 2010 as general manager and executive vice president. Seattle made the playoffs in Schneider’s first year in the position and won the Super Bowl in the fourth year.
During Schneider’s tenure as general manager, Seattle has shown the sixth-best results in the NFL — 147 wins, 96 losses and 1 tie, winning 10 or more games in nine of the last 13 seasons. Seattle has made the playoffs 10 times in 15 seasons and won five NFC West titles.
This offseason, Schneider made several significant trades, including sending quarterback Jimmy Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and sending receiver DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year deal worth $100.5 million and receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year deal worth $45 million.
