Canada Recognizes the Palestinian State in March

Toronto (AP) — Acting Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney announced that Canada recognizes the Palestinian state in March.
Carney held a cabinet meeting in midweek to discuss the situation in the region. The push for formal recognition of Palestinian statehood has increased since French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country will become the first major Western nation to recognize the Palestinian state next month.
Canada has long supported the resolution for two states — an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state that can peacefully coexist with the State of Israel, added Carney at the press conference alongside Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.
This step follows similar announcements from France, which also plans to recognize the Palestinian state in March, as well as the United Kingdom, which has stated its intention to do the same, provided Israel does not fulfill the conditions that include achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
