After the shooting at an office building in New York, where four individuals were killed, companies across the country are reassessing their security measures. The assailant, 27-year-old Shain Devon Tamura, entered the building armed with a handgun and opened fire, which caused panic among employees.
Experts believe that similar incidents are becoming increasingly common. Donald Mikhailik, a former agent of the U.S. Secret Service, noted that people are beginning to identify threats to corporations through various means. According to research, from 1994 to 2021, 16,497 U.S. workers were fatally shot while on the job.
In response to the shooting, companies have begun implementing measures to enhance security. For instance, utilizing cameras with artificial intelligence for threat detection has become relevant. Experts also recommend improving lighting in facilities and installing mirrors for better visibility of corners.
Additionally, it is recommended to conduct threat assessments to identify potential security risks. Mikhailik emphasized the importance of conducting training for employees regarding actions in the event of an active threat.
In turn, security professionals stress the need for collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to develop building plans and be prepared for possible threats.
