Brown University announced the achievement of an agreement with the federal government of the USA, which allows it to restore access to funding for research. This occurred on July 30, 2025, when the university reported that the agreement also concludes the investigation into possible discrimination incidents.
According to the agreement, the university is obligated to pay 50 million dollars to the USA for workforce development in Rhode Island over the next 10 years. These funds will support medical and scientific research that is financed by the federal government.
President of Brown University, Christina H. Paxson, noted that the suspension of funding, which began in April, created serious difficulties for the educational institution. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the academic independence of the university and upholding its core values.
The agreement also stipulates that the university must provide data to the government to ensure compliance with obligations related to non-discrimination.
