  • The lawsuit pertains to involuntary manslaughter and violations of law.
  • Baldwin and the film's producers are facing a new lawsuit from the family of Halyna Hutchins.

The court in New Mexico has filed a lawsuit against actor Alec Baldwin regarding the prosecutors in the case of the fatal shooting on the set of the film "Rust."

In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot on a ranch near Santa Fe during a rehearsal. Baldwin, who was not only an actor but also a producer of the film, pointed the gun at Hutchins when the weapon discharged.

The court upheld the ruling regarding the filing of the lawsuit due to the absence of significant actions on his part. The lawsuit was filed in January, and Baldwin's attorneys have 30 days to file a motion to dismiss the case.

Baldwin's lead attorney, Luke Nikas, stated that the filing of the lawsuit was not unexpected, as his team had already anticipated the process. According to him, negotiations regarding the settlement of the case are ongoing, and if they do not conclude successfully, the lawsuit will be filed again.

The case involves prosecutor Kari Morrissey, the surrounding prosecutor Mary Carmack-Altwies, and their investigators from the Santa Fe County sheriff's office.

The allegations of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin were filed in court last year due to the accusations in the preliminary evidence. Also in the lawsuit, Baldwin is accused of negligence, as his attorneys claim that prosecutors and investigators targeted the actor for professional or political gain.

At this moment, Baldwin and the producers of "Rust" are also facing a lawsuit from Hutchins' parents and younger sister in the New Mexico court. The scheduled deposition of Baldwin in this case was postponed in April and has not yet been rescheduled.
