On July 31, drones attacked the radio plant in Penza, Russia, which specializes in the production of modern communication systems for the armed forces of Russia. This information was confirmed by Andriy Kovalенко, head of the Center for Defense Strategies of Ukraine.
According to local Telegram channels, the target was the AT "Radio Plant". Videos circulated on social media show a black cloud over the city. Local residents report a large fire on the territory of the plant, asserting that "the plant is being bombed".
The governor of the region confirmed the attack and the fire at one of the facilities, stating that there are no casualties and significant damage reported. The local authorities also announced temporary restrictions on mobile internet, necessary for supporting the emergency response systems.
Kovalенко noted that the plant produces critical supplies for the Russian army, and its destruction could impact command and control systems. The plant manufactures:
- mobile command points;
- automated combat control systems;
- communication systems for Ground Forces, Airborne Troops, and strategic missile forces;
- modern command-staff machines based on armored vehicles.
Also on July 31, a strong attack by drones occurred in the city of Kotelnikovo in the Volgograd region. After the nighttime attack, a fire broke out, traffic was interrupted, and gas supply was disrupted. In recent weeks, drones have carried out a series of attacks on the logistics infrastructure of Russia, including an attack on the railway infrastructure in the city of Salsk in the Rostov region on July 29.
