  • The regulator plans to announce further measures in the coming month.
  • More than 400,000 people have signed a petition against the Online Safety Bill.

Ofcom has started an investigation into four companies that manage 34 porn sites, with the aim of verifying their compliance with the new age verification requirements under the Online Safety Act of Great Britain. The regulator noted that these companies generate more than nine million unique visitors per month.

The investigation concerns companies 8579 LLC, AVS Group Ltd, Kick Online Entertainment SA, and Trendio Ltd, which were selected based on the risk of harm they may cause through their services.

From July 25, 2025, new safety regulations will require platforms to use "highly effective" age verification methods to prevent children from accessing pornography and other harmful content.

Ofcom also emphasized that in cases of identified non-compliance, it may require the platform to take specific measures to ensure compliance, and also impose fines of up to £18 million or 10% of the company's global revenue, whichever amount is higher.

In addition, the regulator has the right to refer to the court for the implementation of measures against business violations, such as blocking access to sites in Great Britain.
