Shannon Sharpe Leaves ESPN After Lawsuit Settlement

  • Sharpe was released from ESPN after a lawsuit settlement.
  • The woman filed a lawsuit, demanding over 50 million dollars.
  • Sharpe will not return to the channel but will continue hosting podcasts.

Shannon Sharpe, a former star of the National Football League (NFL) and popular podcaster, was released from ESPN after a lawsuit settlement in which he was accused of harassment. The woman who filed the lawsuit claimed that Sharpe had subjected her to harassment during their two-year relationship. She demanded over 50 million dollars in compensation.

Sharpe, who is 57 years old, denied the allegations. At the beginning of this month, an agreement was reached between the parties, and the case was closed. Following the news of his dismissal, Sharpe confirmed this information on his podcast, stating that he will not return to ESPN.

He mentioned that he learned about his dismissal earlier this week. Sharpe did not appear on the channel at the time of the lawsuit being filed in the state of Nevada in April. In an anonymous lawsuit, the woman accused Sharpe of "physical and emotional abuse." She was 19 years old when she met Sharpe at a sports bar in Los Angeles, and she claimed that their relationship was "toxic and abusive."

On July 18, the woman's attorney announced that the case was settled, and both parties acknowledged that their relationship had been toxic and abusive. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Sharpe played 14 years in the NFL, playing for the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens, scoring 62 receiving touchdowns and winning three Super Bowls. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

In the new episode of his podcast, Sharpe did not comment in detail on the allegations but chose to speak about his brother, Sterling Sharpe, who is also a former NFL player and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame soon.
