James Van Der Beek, a well-known actor, shared his experience battling cancer of the throat, diagnosed in 2023. In a recent interview, he described how living with cancer has become for him a "full-time job." He stressed the importance of undergoing screenings, even when there are no symptoms.
Van Der Beek stated that since his diagnosis, he has made changes in his way of life, including being more active and maintaining a diet. "This is a process that, presumably, will last my whole life," he noted.
The actor also highlighted the significance of early cancer diagnosis. Along with recommendations from the American Oncology Association, regular screenings for throat cancer should begin at age 45. Van Der Beek underwent screening at age 46 and did not know that the age to start screening had been lowered to 45.
He also shared how he explained to his children, including his six kids, his illness, emphasizing the importance of honesty in discussing it with them. Van Der Beek noted that many people reached out to him to express gratitude for sharing his journey with cancer.
