On the night of July 30 to 31, 2025, Russia carried out a massive strike on Kyiv, using drones and missiles. As a result of this attack, not only civilians were injured, but also journalists. In particular, Nataliya Mazina, a journalist from Hromadske, and her partner Dmytro received injuries as a result of the drone strike in the Sviatoshyn district of the city.
Nataliya recalled that during the attack, they were left in the corridor with a person. "We heard a powerful explosion around 04:40. A loud explosion happened at our door," she noted. After the explosion, Nataliya and Dmytro received shrapnel injuries, and their apartment became uninhabitable.
Apart from them, the apartment of Kateryna Solyar, the head of the 24 Kanal television, was also damaged. She decided to hide in the corridor, which, according to her words, likely saved her life. "Basically, I’m alive… My hands are still shaking, but I’m okay," she said in a video after the attack.
As a result of the strike, an apartment building was destroyed, and several apartments in the Solomyansky district were also damaged. As of July 31, according to preliminary data, the attack resulted in at least 11 deaths, including a child, and over 135 people received injuries. Among them is the girl Veronika, who fell from the ninth floor during the explosion. She stated that she likely fell on a soft surface, and she only received a bruise.
Veronika does not know what happened to her parents.
Rescue services and police involved over 1200 people to respond to the emergency situation.
