Google has introduced a new initiative called Earth AI, which includes a collection of geospatial models powered by artificial intelligence and curated datasets. This initiative aims to combat the consequences of climate change, support emergency services, and enhance urban infrastructure.

As part of the project AlphaEarth Foundations, Google has developed a model that functions as a "virtual satellite". The model processes vast amounts of publicly available information from various sources, such as optical satellites and climate simulations, and divides the Earth and adjacent waters into quadrants measuring 10 by 10 meters for analysis.

Among the practical applications of Earth AI are:

• models for accurate weather forecasting;
• systems for predicting floods and fires, which are used in Google Search and Maps;
• models for urban planning;
• tools for monitoring public health.

Google emphasizes that Earth AI is developed in accordance with the principles of responsible artificial intelligence, focusing on transparency and accessibility. Access to the model has been granted to over 50 organizations for testing in real-world conditions, and the data has also become available for scientific research in Google Earth Engine.
