Ford to Present New Affordable Electric Vehicles on September 11

  • Ford will announce new electric vehicles on September 11
  • Losses from the electric vehicle division have reached $1.3 billion
  • The first affordable electric vehicle will be released in 2027

This is reported by TechCrunch, The Verge.

Ford will announce more details about its new affordable electric vehicles on September 11 in Kentucky. General Director of the company Jim Farley called this announcement a "Model T moment" for Ford.

This statement came after Ford reported a loss in the electric vehicle division of nearly $1.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025. Sales of the company's most popular electric vehicles, such as the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, are declining amid a challenging inventory situation for electric vehicles during Donald Trump's second term as president.

Farley first announced the team working on the development of the affordable electric vehicle in the summer of 2024. This team is led by former Tesla engineer Alan Klark, whose team includes specialists from Tesla, Rivian, Apple, and Lucid Motors.

Ford has not yet provided specific details, but confirmed that the first vehicle on the new platform will be a mid-size pickup, scheduled for release in 2027. The company plans to develop "a stylish vehicle model—for both retail and commercial clients," which will include "personalized digital solutions."

Affordable models may complement Ford's lineup, but not until 2027. Currently, the U.S. market practically lacks mass-market electric vehicles priced under $30,000, but the situation may change when new Ford electric vehicles hit the market in two years. Tesla also plans to release a simplified Model Y, while General Motors is converting the Chevrolet Bolt next year.
