Houlie and Trump Discussed the Bill to Ban Trading in Securities

  • The Houlie bill bans trading in securities for elected officials.
  • Trump and Houlie held a conversation to clarify the situation.
  • Pelosie supports the bill, which enhances ethical standards.

Senator Josh Houlie criticized President Donald Trump, who referred to him as a "junior senator." This occurred after Houlie introduced the bill that bans trading in securities for members of Congress, the president, and the vice president.

In a discussion with Fox News, Houlie noted that a "good conversation" took place between him and Trump, where they clearly expressed their concerns regarding the bill. Houlie emphasized that Trump is not inclined to sell his assets, such as the Mar-a-Lago club.

The Houlie bill, along with Democratic Senator Gary Peterson, received support in the Senate committee. He anticipates a ban on the purchase and sale of securities for members of Congress, the president, and the vice president, as well as their immediate family members. If the bill becomes law, it will prohibit the purchase of securities for elected officials and prevent them from selling securities for a period of 90 days after leaving office.

Earlier, Trump also expressed concern that Houlie was trying to block a proposal that had the potential to review trading securities of former Speaker Paul Ryan's representatives, Nancy Pelosi and her staff.

Pelosi stated her support for the bill, noting that Americans deserve transparency in that their elected leaders act in the interests of the public rather than their personal portfolios. She also highlighted that the bill, known as the HONEST Act, rightly applies the ban on trading securities not only to members of Congress but also to the president and vice president.

Upon clarification, Houlie confirmed that Trump supports the ban on trading securities for members of Congress and wants the bill to be passed quickly.
