Goalkeeper Matt Turner Returns to New England Revolution

  • Turner is returning to New England Revolution on loan.
  • The agreement could be finalized by the end of this week.
  • Leon encountered financial problems that impacted the agreement.

New England Revolution is negotiating with Leon regarding the return of goalkeeper Matt Turner on loan with a buy option. According to several sources, the agreement could be finalized by the end of this week.

Turner, who is 31 years old, may occupy the position of goalkeeper with a designated salary until the end of the 2025 season, but may also become a goalkeeper with a target budget in 2026. For the agreement to be beneficial, the purchase of Turner must be significantly lower than the 8 million euros that Leon paid Nottingham Forest last summer.

Earlier this year, Turner signed a contract with Leon, but due to financial problems at the club, the agreement was not officially announced. Leon faced administrative penalties in League 2, but successfully appealed this decision.

Turner played for New England Revolution for seven seasons, becoming one of the best goalkeepers in MLS. After transferring to Arsenal in 2022, he played little, and then moved to Nottingham Forest, where he also did not manage to establish himself in the main squad.

In the last season, Turner was part of Crystal Palace, but played only four matches. Due to the insufficient amount of playing time, he lost his place in the main squad of the US national team, which puts his participation in future competitions at risk.
