Lottie Voad starts anew at the AIG Women's Open

  • Lottie Voad recorded a score of 72 in the first round
  • Japanese golfers Okaima and Takeda are leading with -5
  • Mimi Rodas is the best among the Britons with -3 on the scorecard

Lottie Voad, who was a favorite before the tournament, failed to confirm her expectations during the mixed start at the AIG Women's Open. Japanese golfers, including Eri Okaima and Rio Takeda, dominated on the first day of competition at Royal Porthcawl.

Voad recorded a score equal to par, making 72 strokes, which is five strokes more than the leaders. During the tournament, she made four birdies and also bogeyed, which left her in a position at even par. Japanese players Okaima and Takeda are leading with a score of -5.

Among other participants, who also showed good results, it is worth mentioning Mimi Rodas, who became the best among the Britons with a score of -3. Other top players in the tournament, such as Nelly Korda and Jin Young Ko, also have good results, finishing at -2.

Voad, who won her professional debut at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open last week, was trying to find her game but was unable to realize all her potential. She made a birdie on the last hole to finish the day at an even score, but acknowledged that the result did not meet her expectations.

Defending champion Lydia Ko also failed to show her best game, finishing the first round with a score of +1. Other notable players, such as Charley Hull, also could not realize their potential, finishing with 73 strokes.

Voad noted that the pressure on her was significant, but she was trying to focus on her game. The next round starts at 08:09 BST, where she will again compete with Lydia Ko and Lilia Vu, who were the previous champions.
