U.S. Secretary Warns of Influence from Medvedev's Ultimatums in Negotiations

  • Rubio considers Medvedev a minor player in Russian politics.
  • Trump threatens Russia with new tariffs due to the war in Ukraine.
  • Medvedev stated that Trump's ultimatums would lead to war.

This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, Meduza.

U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio commented on the threats expressed by Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council. Rubio noted that Medvedev's words do not have a significant impact on Russian politics.

In an interview with Fox Radio, Rubio stated that Medvedev is not an important figure in Russian politics, nor does he participate in key decisions. He referred to him as "Putin's puppet," adding that, given this, his words could have some provocative effect.

Earlier, on July 28, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of imposing new tariffs on Russia if there is no progress in peace negotiations regarding Ukraine. In response, Medvedev stated that Trump is playing a game with ultimatums, and each new ultimatum is a step toward war, but not with Ukraine, but with the U.S.

Trump responded to Medvedev by dismissing his "words as meaningless." This was a reaction to Medvedev's statement, in which he emphasized that Russia has no intention of fulfilling U.S. demands.

Against the backdrop of these events, Rubio expressed doubts that Medvedev's words reflect the official position of Russia, and added that they may not have a significant impact on the situation.
