Yankees Acquire David Bednar to Strengthen Rotation
- The Yankees have acquired David Bednar from the Pirates to strengthen their rotation.
- The team also signed Jake Bird from Colorado.
- The exchange involves the transfer of three prospective pitchers to Pittsburgh.
New York Yankees have finalized an agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates to acquire right-handed pitcher David Bednar. This move comes ahead of the upcoming trade deadline on July 31, 2025. The agreement includes the transfer of three prospective pitchers: Rafael Flores, Edglen Perez, and outfielder Bryan Sanchez.
The Yankees, who have been facing issues in their rotation, particularly with a high ERA of 4.24, hope that Bednar can improve their performance in the remaining games of the season. After a stint in the minor leagues, where he spent nearly 20 days, Bednar showcased impressive results, posting an ERA of 1.70 in 38 appearances from mid-April to 50 strikeouts.
In addition, the Yankees also signed Jake Bird from Colorado, who has an ERA of 2.48 at home, but his away performance raises concerns. These changes indicate the team's active pursuit of new opportunities to enhance their game before the end of the season.
