- Jeffery Clark recommends revoking his license for attempting to contest the election results.
- The letter from Clark contains misleading statements regarding the elections in Georgia.
- The decision of the council will be referred to the Appeals Court for further consideration.
Washington, District of Columbia — The Disciplinary Council of the District of Columbia has recommended that Jeffery Clark, former acting head of the U.S. Department of Justice and ally of President Donald Trump, be stripped of his license to practice law. This decision was made on July 31, 2025.
Clark, who is currently serving as the acting head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, played a significant role in Trump's efforts to contest the results of the 2020 election. At a council meeting, it was noted that Clark attempted to issue a letter that questioned the election results, disregarding the prohibitions of the leadership of the Department of Justice.
In the letter from Clark, which was not sent, he stated that the legislators of the state of Georgia should investigate "irregularities" in the elections and, if necessary, identify voters who superseded the election results. The Disciplinary Council found that Clark knowingly made misleading statements.
Furthermore, in the council's statement, it was noted that "attorneys must adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct". Clark may be stripped of his license, as such behavior cannot be tolerated.
The council's decision will be forwarded to the Appeals Court of the District of Columbia for further review. Two of the nine members of the council opposed Clark's license revocation, proposing to replace it with a three-year suspension.
