- Mikail Bridges became a key player for the team.
The New York Knicks and Mikail Bridges have agreed on a new contract for four years worth 150 million dollars, confirmed sources. Bridges decided to take a deal smaller than the maximum contract to help the Knicks remain under the salary cap and continue building a team to compete for the championship.
This agreement came after the Knicks announced that they had hired Mike Brown as the new head coach, replacing Tom Thibodeau. Brown will lead a team that recently achieved a playoff finish for the first time in 25 years.
Bridges joined the Knicks last summer as a result of a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks made five selections in the first round, one selection in the second round, and Bogdan Bojanovich for Bridges, considering him an important player for the team, which has the potential to compete for the title.
During his debut season with the Knicks, Bridges played in all 82 games of the regular season, averaging 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He demonstrated stability, becoming the only player who averaged over 3000 minutes on the court last season.
Regardless of the collective in his group, Bridges made significant defensive plays in the playoffs, helping the Knicks advance past the first two rounds. His contract includes an option for the player in the 2029-30 season and a clause regarding the extension, which gives him some flexibility in the future.
