The Canadian Open tennis tournament in Montreal is ongoing, and Coco Gauff started it off by advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating Veronika Kudermetova from Russia. Gauff, who is the first seed in the tournament and holds the second position in the world ranking, defeated Kudermetova with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

This victory was particularly significant for Gauff, as she had to recover after losing a game in the first set. Two days earlier, she also had to come back after facing 23 match points against American Daria Collin.

Coco Gauff, the 2025 French Open champion, is now waiting for the winner of the match between Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko and Czech Maria Bouzkova. In other tournament news, fourth seed Mirra Andreyeva suffered a defeat against 28th seed Marketa Vondrousova with a score of 7-6, 6-4.

Vondrousova will now face Ukrainian tennis player Martyna Kostiuk, who defeated 15th seed Daria Kasatkina with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Also reaching the quarterfinals was unseeded Zhu Lin from China after defeating Susan Lamens with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
