- The international pressure on Israel is increasing, but actions remain symbolic.
In light of recent events in Gaza, former US President Donald Trump has called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Trump emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic, highlighting the urgent need for aid to children.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also spoke out in favor of recognizing Palestine at the UN, stating that it should not be a prerequisite for achieving a ceasefire and progress towards a two-state solution. French President Emmanuel Macron supported a similar initiative, which indicates the increasing pressure on Israel.
On the international front, Trump continues to support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, providing him with the opportunity to act with fewer restrictions. At the same time, despite the international reaction to the crisis in Gaza, Israeli actions remain symbolic, and humanitarian aid that arrives is insufficient for the needs of the population.
Recognizing Palestine has many supporters, including Canada, and could be a tool for pressuring Israel to achieve a ceasefire. Trump stressed that the creation of an independent Palestine could be a significant step in this process, provided that it does not become a threat to Israel.
Nonetheless, it remains unclear whether Trump, trying to exert his influence, will force Netanyahu to enter negotiations. Without his support, European attempts to find a compromise may not yield significant results.
