Announcement of New Tariffs by Trump Delayed Until September 7
- Tariffs on imports from countries with a surplus will remain at 10%
- Countries with a trade deficit will fall under tariffs starting at 15%
- The implementation of the tariffs is delayed until September 7 for customs preparation
On September 1, 2025, the Trump administration announced a new tariff policy. Tariffs on imports from countries that have a trade surplus with the USA will remain at 10%. These are the countries to which the USA exports more than it imports.
Countries with a trade deficit with the USA will fall under the new rate of no less than 15%. According to official data, about 40 countries will be subject to this rule. For many of them, the new tariffs will be lower than before, but for some — higher.
Specifically, the highest tariffs will be on imports from Laos and Myanmar — 40% and from Syria — 41%. Also announced is a 40% tariff on imports from Brazil, which in total with the basic 10% will amount to 50% for Brazilian goods.
Trump delayed the introduction of new tariffs for another week until September 7 so that the customs service of the USA could prepare for the collection of new tariffs on imported goods.
