The President of the USA Donald Trump signed an executive order that introduces new tariffs on imports from 69 countries. These tariffs range from 10% to 41% and will take effect within seven days. In particular, countries in Asia, such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, reported significant impacts from these changes.
Vietnam became the first country to include an agreement with the USA, reducing its tariff from 46% to 20%. This decision became a precedent for other countries in the region. Thailand, which currently has a tariff of 36%, is also negotiating to reduce its rate to 19%.
Japan and South Korea managed to reduce their tariff rates from 25% to 15% after negotiations with American representatives. Meanwhile, ASEAN countries, such as Cambodia and Malaysia, also agreed to lower their rates to 19%.
Among the countries that received the highest tariffs, Laos and Myanmar have rates reaching 40%. This may be related to their limited access to the market and tight connections with China.
Trump also hinted at plans to review these tariffs in the future, which may lead to further changes in economic relations.
