  • Western countries accuse Iran of assassinations against opposition figures.
  • Iran denies the accusations, calling them baseless.
  • Problems with Iran's nuclear program deepen international tensions.

Great Britain and 13 allies, including the USA and France, have accused Iranian intelligence services of organizing a series of assassinations, kidnappings, and campaigns against individuals who are living in Europe and North America. In a joint statement published on September 1, 2025, the countries called on Iran to immediately cease these illegal actions, which, according to them, are increasingly being carried out in collaboration with international criminal networks.

In particular, referring to the threats sent to Belgian-Iranian MP Dariya Safai, who reported that Iranian forces are planning her abduction in Turkey. The British Parliament recently stated that since 2022, more than 20 attempts of abduction or assassination of individuals in Great Britain have been identified, including British citizens.

Iran, in response, labeled the accusations as baseless. A representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described these statements as part of a campaign against Iran. In addition, in the Netherlands, an attempt to assassinate an Iranian dissident took place, for which Tehran was also accused.

These incidents are taking place against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between Western countries regarding Iran's nuclear program, which remain unresolved. Iran insists that its nuclear programs have a peaceful character, despite accusations from Israel that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.
