Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine, disregarding threats from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding increased sanctions if President Vladimir Putin does not agree to ceasefire by August 8.

On August 1, 2025, Kyiv was hit by a series of rocket and drone attacks, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 people, while over 150 sustained injuries. Among the injured were children, including a 6-year-old boy and a 5-month-old girl.

The attack caused partial destruction of a nine-story residential building, where a family lived, which reported serious injuries. The area suffered significant destruction, including damage to over 100 buildings, including residential buildings, schools, and medical facilities.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of Kyiv, reported that as a result of the attack, 27 objects in the capital were damaged, with the most significant destruction noted in the Solomyanka and Svyatoshyn districts.

In response to this incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on international partners to continue providing military assistance and to pressure Moscow for real negotiations.

In response to these events, Trump stated that the U.S. was ready to take measures if Russia does not show readiness for peace. He expressed his condemnation of Russia's actions, calling them "disgraceful."
