Four flight attendants sue Boeing over incident with Alaska Airlines

  • NTSB criticizes Boeing for quality control issues

Four flight attendants who worked on Alaska Airlines flight 1282 have filed lawsuits against Boeing due to an incident that occurred in January 2024. During the flight on a Boeing 737 MAX 9, a door panel blew out, which triggered rapid cabin decompression.

In their lawsuits, the flight attendants assert that they suffered physical and emotional injuries, and they also claim economic losses. An attorney stated that "each of the four flight attendants displayed courage, following their training and placing passengers' safety first."

The lawsuits were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle. The documents indicate that Boeing failed to establish adequate training, sales, and maintenance for the 737 MAX aircraft. The flight attendants point to serious quality control issues, which, in their view, should have been known to the company.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) also criticized Boeing for insufficient training and oversight that could have prevented this incident. In its report, the NTSB noted that Boeing did not install four critical bolts on the panel during the aircraft's manufacturing.

Boeing declined to comment on the situation but has repeatedly stated its willingness to cooperate with the NTSB investigation.
